My Approach to Individual Psychotherapy
Hello! I’m Dr. Sarah Weber. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist originally from the beautiful San Diego, but currently residing in Ventura County. As a psychologist, I specialize in treating a range of anxiety disorders, including panic attacks and OCD, as well as grief and trauma presentations. My experience in the field began with care focused on survivors of sexual assault and abuse but has since broadened to include working with a range of concerns including concerns specific to first responders and military/veterans, phase of life changes (especially related to the transition to and from college for both general population and student veterans), and other concerns such as eating disorders, body dysmorphia, OCD, panic disorders, depression, anxiety, and grief.
I am trained in several approaches to therapy, including ERP, ACT, CBT, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, DBT, and Family-based treatment for eating disorders. Throughout my clinical training, I have worked within college counseling centers, in veteran advocacy, in an inpatient substance use treatment facility, in an intensive outpatient setting, and in a non-profit supporting survivors of sexual assault and abuse. I also have experience working with the internal family systems approach and approaches to complex trauma and complicated grief presentations. I have also specialized in working with religious/faith-based integration into therapy and have been trained in a faith-based ACT approach for Christian clients. While I am specially trained in this approach, I remain completely open to working with individuals from all backgrounds and faiths.
When not in therapy, you can find me with my family, on or in the ocean (diving, surfing, or learning to sail), or on one of the many local hiking trails. If not there, I am probably running in preparation for my next half-marathon. In my personal time, I am also passionate about traveling both for pleasure and community service. I have had the privilege of doing refugee work in Italy, community service in Spain, Hungary, and Indonesia, among other International and national travels. It is a personal goal to make it to all seven continents so I can continue to be humbled and inspired by this beautiful world and the incredible and beautiful diversity of the peoples and cultures that fill it.
Coming from a background that heavily emphasized the stigma against therapy and seeking mental health care, I was inspired by my own experiences to become a mental health professional who can offer the best evidence-based care that is both competent and approachable for all those seeking care. I am passionate about opening the door to the best possible care to all who seek it because of my firsthand experience with how transformational the proper care and support can be. In my approach, I emphasize professional curiosity to explore your lived experience, thoughtful creation of a treatment plan that includes exploration of cultural and situational factors, and a genuine approach that incorporates time for crying, for warmth, for education, for laughter, for structure, and more, as it best fits your needs.
